New Zealand Franz Josef 2006
The Franz Josef Glacier seen in this 2006 photo shows some increase in glacial mass. This is a good example of glacial mass increase in the northern and southern latitudes closer to the poles. The warming of the tropics forces moisture north and south in the hemisphere which causes glacial mass increase in those regions Note: Individual response times to climate changes are different all around the world. New Zealand Franz Josef 1964
Retreating GlaciersFranz Josef Glacier, located in New Zealand, retreated dramatically in the twentieth century. Taken in 1964, this photograph is the last in a series the documents the glacier's retreat. After 14 years of retreating back up the valley, the glacier's terminus is barely visible.
